We’ve heard that the hours before a red carpet appearance can be stressful. Not so for Poor Things star Emma Stone, who is in Los Angeles tonight for the 81st Golden Globes. After all, she has her trusted glam team with her, including hair stylist Mara Roszak.
“Mara and I have been collaborating on hair looks for over 15 years,” Stone, who is nominated in two categories (for Poor Things and Showtime’s The Curse). “It’s been so fun.”

The duo has given Vogue an exclusive behind-the-scenes look into the beauty prep and inspiration, which is aimed at paying homage to Stone’s Poor Things character, naive Bella.
To prep for the evening, Roszak first got out her shears, giving Stone’s hair a fresh new shape. “We wanted the bob to be even blunter than before,” she shared over the phone, moments after Stone walked out of the door.
Next, Roszak used products from her own line, Roz. “I love the way that Rōz products make my hair feel,” Stone says, adding that she’s been using the Root Spray for “over a year.” She’s also a huge fan of the shampoo and conditioner, which help her maintain her colour.
When it came to the shape, Roszak and Stone went for a look that’s been gaining popularity since last fashion week, The Flip. Yet they gave the rather retro silhouette – Jackie O is usually the reference – a more contemporary feel. “This isn’t a full 1950s flip, but something softer and airier, just created through a blowout,” Roszak says. “That’s what makes it feel modern but not dramatic or theatrical. It’s a great way to show off the architectural line of the blunt cut.”
The look is fresh and new, much like Bella. If you have seen Poor Things, you know what we're talking about – if not, no spoilers.
